Let's show our support for Stevenson Memorial
(Aug. 24, 2015) Close to a month ago, I announced a petition calling upon Premier Kathleen Wynne to provide the necessary funding to Stevenson Memorial Hospital so it can proceed with a planned redevelopment.
The project – when it does finally go ahead – will involve a new emergency department, operating rooms, diagnostic imaging and laboratory.
Since asking people to sign the petition, I've been pleased with the response.
But I want to take this opportunity to encourage others who haven't signed the petition to do so.
As many of you know, Stevenson Memorial is in dire need of more room so it can continue to provide the top-notch care it's so well known for in South Simcoe. And as our population ages, the hospital's needs will only continue to grow.
Just to give you an example of the pressures on our hospital, it was built in 1964 for just 7,000 visits but today experiences more than 33,000 visits each year.
The Liberal government's own Places to Grow Act forecasts massive population growth in New Tecumseth and so Premier Wynne needs to make the hospital a priority.
Stevenson Memorial is an important part of our community and has been since its first building. At so many different phases in our lives, we turn to it and the skilled individuals who work there.
By signing the petition, we can show a serious and united front to the Liberal government. We can show the Premier and the Minister of Health that we value our hospital and that we expect it to receive appropriate funding so it can provide the needed level of care.
And at the end of the day, that continued level of care is of the utmost importance.
So please, take some time and sign the petition. Let's join together and show the government how much we value Stevenson Memorial Hospital.
Copies of the petition are available at the hospital and my Alliston constituency office. You can also print off a copy by visiting my website at www.jimwilsonmpp.com.
Once signed, the petition can be dropped off at my Alliston constituency office at 180 Parsons Rd. or you can mail it to me.
And I encourage business owners to post the petition by their front counters as another way we can gather signatures.
Please note that in order to present the petition in the Legislature I require original signatures rather than photocopies of the petition.
But before bringing in the petition or popping it into a mailbox, please share it with your family, friends and co-workers so they too can sign it and show their support.
