Wilson Tours Angus to View Aftermath of Tornado
(June 18, 2014) Today, Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson was on hand to view the devastating aftermath of the EF-2 Tornado that touched down in Angus on Tuesday evening. Wilson sent an open letter to Premier Wynne asking that she send someone from her government to witness the devastation that destroyed 100 homes.
"My thoughts are with the residents that have been impacted by the destruction of this tornado that hit our region yesterday evening," said Wilson. "I have been in contact with community leaders and the provincial government to make sure emergency response is in place. The Insurance Bureau of Canada has also reached out to me to make themselves available to anyone experiencing problems with insurance claims."
Wilson spoke with the Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Community Safety early Wednesday morning. He was assured that hydro crews are working to restore service to the remaining homes that have been left without power and that Emergency Management Ontario is in the region to provide support to anyone that has been impacted by the storm. Wilson is concerned that at this point in time no officials from the Liberal government itself have been on the scene to witness the devastation.
Wilson will continue to follow the issue closely and urges anyone that needs further information or assistance to contact the Township of Essa (705-424-9770) or his office directly (Collingwood 705-446-1090, or Alliston 705-435-4087).
