A Confident Government Shouldn't Be Afraid of a Confidence Motion
(May 15, 2013) In a bid to protect their Party and political power, the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals continue to disrespect and disregard the will of Ontario taxpayers, Ontario PC House Leader Jim Wilson and Deputy House Leader Steve Clark said today.
“A confident government shouldn’t be afraid of a confidence motion,” said Clark. “The arrogance of the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals to waste hundreds of millions of dollars to buy an election is one thing. But to be so arrogant that you would limit Ontarians’ opportunity to hold you to account is another.”
Clark noted that for the past two weeks the Liberals and NDP have ignored the PCs’ vote of confidence. As a result, the Ontario PCs have introduced a motion that will require the government to schedule the vote of confidence.
“This whole process is about clinging to power, not about doing what is right. Whether it’s half a billion dollars on gas plants or a billion dollars to buy the NDP’s support, it is clear that the Liberals will spend anything to keep their power,” said Wilson.
“Despite lacking a mandate from voters, Premier Wynne insists on telling people what they can have confidence in. The McGuinty-Wynne Liberals need to stop hiding from accountability and bring the vote of non-confidence to the Legislature,” continued Wilson.
“I hope that the NDP will vote in favour of our motion to schedule a vote of confidence in the Legislature.”
Clark concluded, “Ontarians deserve to have a say about whether the scandal-plagued Liberals have the confidence of the people. It is time for the NDP and Liberals to stop silencing Ontarians.”
