Wilson named House Leader of the government-in-waiting
(October 19, 2011) Jim Wilson was promoted today at Queen’s Park. The Simcoe-Grey MPP has been tasked by PC Leader Tim Hudak to play a significant role in the new minority legislature as House Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.
The House Leader is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the
party in the legislature and is in charge of negotiations with the
leadership of other parties on the conduct of bills and debates. The
role is particularly significant in a minority, where no one party has
control of the House and where bills can only be passed with the
agreement of other parties.
Tim Hudak and the Ontario PCs won 37 seats in the October 6, 2011 provincial election, picking up 16 new Members of Provincial Parliament. Of those 16 new members, 12 won in ridings previously held by Liberal MPPs and four won in ridings held by retiring Ontario PC members. By comparison, the Ontario Liberals lost 19 seats.
