Wilson Tables Resolution to Help Farmers
(May 26, 2010) Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson has tabled a Private Member’s Resolution in the Ontario Legislature to urge the government to implement a comprehensive Business Risk Management Program for Ontario farmers.
“Farmers in my constituency have been in difficulty in recent years, a situation shared by producers across the province,” said Wilson. “We need to make the plight of our farmers a much higher priority for the government so that our producers become a part of Ontario’s economic recovery, and not the victims of government neglect.”
Wilson’s Resolution will be debated in the Ontario Legislature on the afternoon of Thursday, June 3, 2010. The Resolution reads as follows:
That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario act to help farmers by supporting reforms to the national AgriStability program at this year’s meeting of the federal and provincial Ministers of Agriculture, and by acting to create a comprehensive Business Risk Management Program, jointly funded by farmers and governments, as presented to the Province by the Ontario Agriculture Sustainability Coalition, and that regardless of any other level of government, the provincial share of the Business Risk Management Program be in place for the 2009 production year, which is currently being marketed.Share
