Ontario Improving Schools in Simcoe County - Government to Replace Banting Memorial High School; Renovate Tecumseth Beeton Elementary School

(January 24, 2022) The Ontario government is investing $42.5 million in the Simcoe County District School Board to build a new replacement for the aging Banting Memorial High School in Alliston and a two room child care centre renovation at Tecumseth Beeton Elementary School in Beeton. This investment, announced by Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education is part of the Ford government’s commitment to supporting affordable and accessible child care in communities across the province.

Once complete, the new Banting Memorial High School will have 1288 secondary school spaces and one infant, one toddler and one preschool room, for a total of 49 licensed spaces.  The replacement school will be located in Alliston at a site to be acquired.

Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson welcomed today’s news saying, “This announcement goes a long way towards shortening my to-do list.  Much of the credit and thanks for the new high school belongs to SCDSB trustee Sarah Beitz who never gave up on the dream for a new modern facility.  Thanks must also go to the many people who signed petitions and wrote letters of support over the past decade.”

I have fond memories of my years at Banting,” said Mr. Wilson.  “My first political office was when I was elected Prime Minister of the school's model parliament and I went on to serve two years as Student Council President,” he added.

The child care centre renovation at Tecumseth Beeton Elementary School on Patterson Street in Beeton will have one toddler and one preschool room, for a total of 39 licensed spaces.

“South Simcoe County is one of the fastest growing regions in Ontario,” said MPP Wilson.  “Thank you to Minister Lecce and Premier Ford for their commitment to our youth and to a bright future for our community.”
