MPP Wilson Announces More than $6.5-million for Transit Projects in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach

 

Ontario Provides its Contribution of more than $2,000,000

COLLINGWOOD — Ontario is working to support municipalities and get people moving by investing in new transit infrastructure projects in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach.

 

Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson announced today that the Ford Government is investing over $1,500,000 in transit infrastructure projects in Collingwood, and over $500,000 in transit infrastructure projects in Wasaga Beach by nominating each of them under the Public Transit stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).

 

"The transit projects announced today promise to make a real difference in people's lives," said Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure. "Better public transit creates stronger communities. It helps people spend less time commuting to work and home, and more time doing the things they love with those they care about most."

 

The projects are now approved by all levels of government for final funding under the ICIP program. These projects can now move forward. The projects include:

Transit Fleet Renewal and Replacement

Collingwood

Purchase of eight new diesel buses over an eight year period, as well as the renewal of major power train components of six vehicles in the current fleet, will enable Collingwood Transit to expand its service and provide a more reliable, accessible transit experience.

Purchase of eight buses, the construction of several transit shelters and other bus stop improvements will increase the accessibility, capacity, and quality of the public transit system.

QUICK FACTS

 

  • The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program is federal-provincial cost-sharing program which includes up to $30 billion in federal, provincial and other partner funding over 10years. Ontario’s share per project will be up to 33.33 per cent or about $10.2 billion spread across four streams: 1. Rural and Northern, 2. Public Transit, 3. Green, 4. Community, Culture and Recreation.
  • On July 22, 2019, Ontario announced that until October 24, municipalities inside the GTHA can apply for funding to support new transit projects under the Public Transit Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. Information on additional intakes will be released when available.
  • City of Toronto and Region of York to the federal government for approval.
