Wilson praises Collingwood General and Marine Hospital for Code Orange response

(February 23, 2018) – Yesterday in the legislature, MPP Jim Wilson offered his praise to staff and management at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital and local first responders for their reactions to a serious accident near Stayner on February 2.

“First responders did an amazing job extricating the injured and preparing them to be transported to the hospital. At Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, a Code Orange was declared. Medical staff were called in to assist with the influx of patients, many of them pediatric,” said Wilson. “Staff at the hospital had just ten minutes warning between notification of the accident and patients arriving.”

The accident involved a tour bus and a mini-van carrying a family of eight. There were a number of serious injuries requiring patients to be flown to other hospitals.

“The staff at our local hospital did a terrific job stabilizing patients coming into the emergency room and preparing those with serious injuries to be transported to larger hospital facilities,” said Wilson. “I want to thank Hospital CEO Norah Holder and Hospital Chief of Staff Dr. Michael Lisi for their leadership during this crisis. During this very rare Code Orange hospital staff performed admirably and with amazing professionalism.”

Wilson also praised the Collingwood Regional Airport for its efforts to assist Ornge helicopters and aircraft coming to the community to transport critical patients to larger trauma centres.

“Great people doing great work and we're very proud of them.”
