VIDEO: Wilson pressures government for hospital re-development planning grants

(November 16, 2017) – MPP Jim Wilson continues to pressure the Wynne government to release planning grants for hospital re-development projects in Collingwood and Alliston.

In June, the House unanimously passed Wilson's private members resolution calling for the immediate release of the money. Today, during question period, Wilson followed up on his resolution and demanded to know when the government would release the money to the hospitals.

“It’s now been more than six months since my resolution was passed and nothing has happened,” said Wilson. “When will this government follow through and release the money to allow these critically important projects to move forward to the next stages of planning?”

In response to Wilson’s question, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, the Honourable Dr. Eric Hoskins said a decision is on the horizon.

“We anticipate that a decision will be taken very soon. I think we’re all anxious to see some progress with regard to this hospital,” said Hoskins. “If the member opposite wanted to meet with ministry officials to get a better sense of where things are at, I would be happy to arrange that.”

Wilson said he is happy with the responses from Premier Kathleen Wynne and Hoskins and said he would take the Minister up on his offer to meet with representatives from the Ministry.

“I want to thank the Premier and Minister for their encouraging response in Question Period,” said Wilson. “I will be asking the Minister if officials from each hospital can accompany me to any meeting with Ministry officials.”
