VIDEO: Wynne Government out of touch with resident concerns over beachfront in Wasaga Beach

(September 13, 2017) Today in the Ontario Legislature, Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson questioned the government over what they are doing to address maintenance concerns with the beachfront in Wasaga Beach Provincial Park.

Over the summer, Wilson received over 2300 signed petitions from local ratepayer groups and constituents upset over the issue.

“Minister, for years I have been contacting this government over and over again about the deteriorating condition of the beachfront in Wasaga Beach,” said Wilson. “Residents are concerned. Tourists are concerned. The Town is concerned. Yet, nothing is being done by your government.”

“Wasaga Beach is a jewel in this province—the Guinness Book of Records calls this beach the longest freshwater beach in the world—from a provincial standpoint, I cannot understand why more attention is not being given to its proper care and maintenance,” continued Wilson.

The Natural Resources Minister didn’t acknowledge Wilson’s concerns. The Minister gave the same response Wilson and his constituents have received from the government many times before.

Wilson went on to ask the Minister if she would agree to a tour and meeting with local constituents to see firsthand the impact of the decisions being made by the government.

“For 14 years Liberal scandals, waste and mismanagement have made life unaffordable in Ontario and services are being cut as a result,” added Wilson. “Ontarians deserve better.”
