Wilson continues to fight for service clubs

(May 17, 2017) Today in question period, Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson again asked the government what they have done to remove the regulatory barriers and burdens facing service clubs in communities across the province. He has been lobbying the government on the issue since 2015.

“Mr. Speaker, in February 2015 my Private Members’ Resolution concerning service clubs received all-party support in this House,” said Wilson. “The government sent my request to the Standing Committee on Social Policy for a mere one half day of hearings; the committee issued a summary of recommendations, and since then we have heard nothing despite my repeated requests for action on the issues raised by service clubs.”

Wilson remains concerned the government has not yet struck the all-party committee that was called for in his original resolution despite their pledge of support for it and the release of the summary of recommendations he referred to in his question. He hopes his query today reminds the government of the importance of this issue.

In the supplementary, Wilson’s colleague, Parry Sound—Muskoka MPP Norm Miller, spoke about issues service clubs in his riding are still experiencing as a result of the government’s inaction.
