Government asked to address Grey-Bruce hospital concerns
(March 21, 2017) Today, Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson and Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker asked the Liberal government what it will do to keep surgical services from leaving hospitals in Meaford, Markdale and Southampton.
Health Minister Eric Hoskins thanked the members for the questions and noted his ministry is working closely with local hospital officials on the issue.
"Of course, no decisions have been made," Hoskins said.
The minister added the government is always looking at ways it can "accommodate local realities and the challenges," faced by small community hospitals.
"I appreciate deeply just how important hospitals like Meaford Hospital are to the local community for a whole variety of reasons. We're working closely to see what we can do in this case," he said.
Hoskins concluded his remarks by saying he hopes MPP Walker will join him shortly for the ground-breaking of the new Markdale hospital (he stated Markham but later clarified he meant Markdale).
Both Wilson and Walker expressed appreciation to the minister for his response in the house and look forward to working with him to find a solution to the community's concerns.
