(June 3, 2016) Roughly 200 people filed into the Royal Canadian Legion in Collingwood on Friday for Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson's annual seniors' seminar.

"It's always a great day and very well supported," Wilson said. "Each year we present guest speakers who talk about issues of importance to seniors. The feedback I get from people who attend is always very appreciative."

This year Jeremy Bertrand from the Ontario Ministry of Finance was the morning speaker. Bertrand gave a detailed – and at times funny – presentation about tax tools that seniors should know.

"He really did a tremendous job and was quite witty," Wilson said.

In the afternoon, Collingwood OPP Const. James Does gave a presentation on various types of scams, many of which are perpetrated by individuals targeting seniors.

"We get a lot of constituency calls from people about scams they've encountered so I wanted to present this type of information this year," Wilson said, adding Does was very informative.

A second seniors' seminar will take place next Friday at the Alliston Legion, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
