ARA Review Hearings Coming to Area

(June 19, 2012) Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson is urging constituents to have their say on Ontario's Aggregate Resources Act (ARA). That's because Ontario's Progressive Conservatives have fought and won the right to have public hearings on the Act held in Orangeville on Wednesday, June 27.

"I'm delighted that we've been able to bring public hearings on this important legislative review to Central Ontario," said Wilson, who serves as Opposition House Leader and who, along with his colleague Sylvia Jones (Dufferin-Caledon), was instrumental in securing the extra consultations.

The all-party Standing Committee on General Government has been directed by the Ontario Legislature to develop recommendations to strengthen the Act which provides for the management of the aggregate resources of Ontario.  The Act controls and regulates aggregate operations on both Crown lands and private lands.

"This is a great opportunity for the public to voice any concerns that they may have with the ARA in its current form," said Wilson.  "Public input will help the Committee determine whether the Act is still fulfilling its original purpose and it's important that the Committee here from a broad spectrum of people."

Interested people who wish to be considered to make an oral presentation in Orangeville on the review of the Aggregate Resources Act should contact the Clerk of the Committee by 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at (416) 325-3515.

Those who do not wish to make an oral presentation but wish to comment on the review may send written submissions to the Clerk of the Committee at the address below by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012.  Submissions can be made by writing to The Standing Committee on General Government, Queen's Park, Toronto, Ontario  M7A 1A2.
